Launching 2022 with another visit to a foreign land in search of more creative energies to bring back to our home in Santa Fe.

Covid is not going away as we had hoped, and EVERYONE is masked here. We have shopping to do, as we had not planned on a New Year’s formal dinner. But The historic San Angel Inn beckoned us, and appropriate preparations were accomplished.

A two-day excursion to Puebla after Christmas transported us to Portugal without pulling out our passports. Founded in the mid-16th Century, the city center feels very European, except for the huge variety of moles created here to remind us of which side of the Atlantic we are visiting.
After the New Year celebrations, Michoacán’s magnetism is too strong to resist. First stop Morelia, the very first seat of power for the State of Mexico. Hotel de la Soledad occupies the structure of the original Presidential Estate, requiring the innovation of a large ornate fountain in the central courtyard, or the indigenous peoples would not trust the new occupiers.
